Our Area

Our Area
South Wales Police Authority covers the seven Local Authority areas of Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan.

We cover a relatively small geographical area - just 10% of Wales, we are responsible for policing over 50% of the total Welsh population – around 1.2million people.

In addition, South Wales attracts over 25million visitors each year, and stages over 100 major events on an annual basis.

A unique policing area

South Wales is a diverse area, boasting urban, rural and coastal areas.
Within our borders we have two large cities – Swansea, and the Capital of Wales, Cardiff. Swansea is home to a ferryport, Championship Football Team Swansea City and the Ospreys Regional Rugby Team.

Cardiff, one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, is home to the National Assembly for Wales, world-renowned Millennium Stadium, an international airport, Championship Football Team Cardiff City and the Cardiff Blues Regional Rugby Team.

In addition to our large urban areas, we have the famous Rhondda, Cynon and Taf valleys, which have undergone rapid change in the last three decades.

Our Southern border is all coastal, and covers the ports of Barry, Port Talbot and Swansea, along with the popular tourist destinations of Porthcawl, the Mumbles and the Gower Peninsula.
