The Government has set a demanding target on the police service to increase, to 60% by 2012, the proportion of people who agree that:
“The police and local council are dealing with the anti-social behaviour and crime issues that matter in this area”
Public confidence in the police and other local agencies is key if crime and anti-social behaviour are to be tackled effectively and the public made to feel safer.
South Wales Police has embarked on a rolling survey programme, utilising its Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), to visit randomly selected addresses and conduct face to face surveys on policing and crime and anti-social behaviour in the local area.
The graph below shows the percentage of people who agreed with the aforementioned statement by local authority area:
The results refer to a combination of a postal exercise undertaken at the end of 2009 and face to face surveys conducted in February 2010, which is now the standard methodology for the Force. Results are based on 600 surveys per local authority area.
From April 2010 150 face to face surveys will be completed per local authority area per quarter with results published here at the end of each quarter.
