‘Equality does not mean sameness, nor should an equal society try to force everyone into the same mould. On the contrary, the pursuit of equality is about empowering people to live their dreams, to be themselves and to be different, if they wish’
Fairness and Freedom: The Final Report of the Equalities Review (2007)
South Wales is made up from rich and diverse communities and it is important that everyone has trust and confidence in us.
The Equality Strands
It is a fundamental principle that the Authority should strive to ensure that those who work or have dealings with us are made to feel welcome and are not in way discriminated against because of any of the following:
-
Age
-
Disability (including physical, mental, sensory and learning disabilities)
-
Gender (including men, women and transsexual/transgender people)
-
Race (including race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin)
-
Religion and belief
-
Sexual Orientation
In Wales, we also call the Welsh Language a strand of equality.
As an Authority, we are committed to promoting diversity across the force and within our own work. The pages within this section provide details on the work we do on equality, along with Human Rights.
