Hate Crime

South Wales Police Authority monitors the levels of hate crime in our area. This is carried out by our Equalities and HR Group.

Between April and December 2009, South Wales Police recorded:
  • 1331 racist incidents, compared to 1313 for the same period in 2008, a 1% increase.
  • 263 homophobic incidents, compared to 250 in the same period last year, a 5% increase.
  • 479 racially/religiously aggravated offences, compared to 449 for the same period in 2008, a 7% increase.

While the levels of crime have increased, this signifies the increasing confidence people have in reporting hate crime to the police.
